SeaWorld releases animal to wild
SAN DIEGO — The sea lion that stopped website traffic when it wandered across a San Diego freeway past month has been produced to the wild — and its rescuers sincerely hope the mischievous animal has learned its lesson this time.
A crew from SeaWorld San Diego’s rescue division released the young, male maritime mammal off the coastline of San Diego Wednesday right after it invested several months in the park’s care. Veterinarians there collaborated with the Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries to decide that the animal was balanced and secure to return to the wild, rescuers stated.
The sea lion wandered on to state Route 94 for various heart-pounding minutes Jan. 7. The sea creature designed it all the way to San Diego’s Mount Hope community — about a 5-mile vacation from the sea, relying on its route.
Some motorists stopped to alert other motorists and try to shoo the around 250-pound animal out of harm’s way. Fortunately, no just one was hurt and no car accidents have been brought about when they waited for aid to arrive.
When SeaWorld San Diego last but not least captured the sea lion in a net on the freeway shoulder, they realized it was not their to start with come upon.
“This animal has been in our rescue facility before,” reported Eric Otjen with the SeaWorld rescue crew. “It was rescued in early November from Harbor Island Travel, was unveiled soon soon after and has been displaying up in form of odd situations and spots since then. This is the weirdest, though.”
Rescuers were being ready to affirm it was the exact same sea lion thanks to tags that they use to continue to keep track of area wildlife. At Wednesday’s launch, they were confident the animal remained effectively tagged — nevertheless they hoped they didn’t bump into him once more.
“It’s really neat when we can get an animal in that wants enable, rehabilitate it, and then we just take it again to its natural house,” Otjen instructed The Hill. “Give it a second opportunity at lifetime.”
