ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A pet was swiped from a regional pet store on Friday in wide daylight and the brazen criminal offense was caught on surveillance camera. Immediately after practically a person 7 days aside, the pup and the proprietor of the pet shop were being reunited on Thursday.
The very small, fluffy white Maltese was only 14 weeks aged when he was stolen, weighing just 2 kilos, in accordance to the pet store proprietor. On Friday, two women ended up noticed hunting at puppies at Aquatic Canine and then a single of them grabbed the puppy dog, put it in her jacket, zipped it up, and took off.
FOX31 spoke with Shelia VanderVeer, proprietor of the pet shop, and she reported it happened quickly. She recalled speaking to the customers and then going for walks off to enable a man at the counter. She said she recognized anything, looked around at the pet pen, did a quick headcount and recognized a person was missing.
“I ran just after them and I caught up with them just as they were being obtaining into their motor vehicle,” VanderVeer explained. “I was yelling at them to quit. I was so anxious for the canine. He’s so tiny.”
She was able to get the license plate of the getaway car and gave that to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Place of work. Deputies then confirmed up at the property, demanded the pup again and a lady handed him about that experience was also captured on human body digital camera.
Deputies took pictures with significant smiles on their faces as they handed the pup back again to the operator of the pet shop on Thursday.
“Oh, he was so happy to see me,” VanderVeer claimed. “We all commented on his tiny tail just wagging back and forth. I know he remembered me. He was a content camper.”
A joyful ending for the pup and VanderVeer this time, but she reported this isn’t the first time this has transpired. She explained this is the fifth time in the last two many years and she thinks it has to do with the soaring costs for dogs in the pandemic.
The thief in this circumstance is now dealing with a felony charge. Minor Maltese, as the pet shop operator phone calls him, was well worth $2,400.
