Pickering Animal Services is looking for help to find the person who abandoned a male cat in North Pickering on the side of a road with all of its belongings, including a scratching post.
On Wednesday at about 8 a.m., City of Pickering Operations staff were driving in the area of Concession 7 and Brock Rd. when they spotted the cat.
“We cannot comprehend this act of cruelty,” Lindsey Narraway, a supervisor with animal services, said.
Abandoning an animal in this manner is neglectful as they are left to fend for themselves against coyotes, traffic and weather, animal services notes.
“If you are looking to rehome your pet, please bring them into the shelter,” Narraway said. “We will ensure they are kept safe and taken care of, giving them the best chance at finding a new home.”
The male cat is being assessed by staff, and Narraway said if its owner is not found, “we hope to find him a new home soon.”
Anyone who has information on where the cat may have come from is asked to contact animal services at 905-427-0093.
